Fox Plays

Hey there, I'm Fox! (he/him) This is my game review blog where I review games that I've played. Warning, there ARE spoilers ahead, so if you don't want spoilers, go play whatever games I'm talking about before I talk about them. Good luck.

Pokemon Sword and Shield

Not a terrible game, but definitely not the best the pokemon series has to offer. The story was again not bad, but also not great. Definitely easy. This is a kids’ game, so you can take that as either a complaint or a compliment. Very easy to get your pokemon to high levels by grinding max raid battles, and easy to raise friendship at pokemon camps. Once again, neither of these are necessarily bad, but they are trivial. I personally prefer games on the more difficult side. I really enjoyed the characters of Bede and Marnie. Overall I’d rate this game 3.5/5.

Rubber Duck Roundup

Silly at the beginning and didn’t seem like it would be anything big. But I was SHOCKED. I’m not usually against spoilers, but this game was so amazing I want you to experience it yourself. You will NOT believe what happened with Jessie. 6/5.

Celeste

Very difficult but also very rewarding. I don’t commonly talk about soundtracks, but this one definitely helps pull the whole vibe together. It is hard to explain this game’s amazingness through words, you kind of have to play it to understand what I mean. But definitely also not for the faint of heart. This game is challenging and you will die. MANY MANY MANY times. 4.5/5 definite recommendation.

The Orb

You can ask it a question and then it’ll show you an image or response related to the question. Kind of interesting to see what it’ll show you. Cool but gets boring after 15 minutes. 1/5.

Hades

Definitely a great game. The developers put their heart and soul into this. It feels amazing to play and it also tells such an interesting story. It’s part roguelike/dungeon crawler, part visual novel, and part dating simulator. Yes, you heard me right. You can date the god of death. Or one of the spirits who punishes the wicked. Or just a floating gorgon head. You can also be in a polyamorous relationship as well! Really difficult but amazing when you’re finally able to pull through. 4.5/5.

Deskjob Simulator

I don’t understand what the purpose of this game is. The entire thing is just about filling out legally-accurate paperwork. That’s the entire game. You can’t even get out of your cubicle. And you can’t log out of the game for 8 hours. 0/5, do not buy this game, it was a waste of money.

Red Dead Redemption 2

It’s Barbie horse riding but with violence. 4/5.

Minecraft Dungeons

Not a terrible game, but it can get very repetitive and does feel like a button masher on occasions. Definitely still fun, but not everybody’s cup of tea. There’s no deep story or amazing soundtrack. Not a horrible game but not the best in the world. 3.5/5.

Deltarune Chapter 2

Amazing game overall. Chapter 2 is great, possibly better than Chapter 1. I enjoyed the inclusion of Noelle. I did struggle with the Berdly fight for a while. I really love what they do with the storytelling, but I do wish that lancer had more speaking lines. Is this somewhat biased because he is my favourite character? Yes, definitely, absolutely. But Queen absolutely helps make up for this. I did find it funny that the weird machine you made in chapter 1 showed up again here. 5/5, definite HAVE to play.

The Hex

I enjoyed the meta commentary and satire of this game a lot. The story was really interesting. I loved the mix of game genres. Decently difficult, a little bit of trial and error at parts. And the twist at the end was really exciting. I’ve seen a lot of people talking and joking about this game in the week since I’ve played it (rip Lionel Snill lol) but I haven’t seen anyone else upload a playthrough. Overall a great sarcastic indie project. 4/5.
